The past several months in Bible study, my husband (the Pastor) has talked about God's name. When Moses asked Him to tell him His name, God replied, "I AM." The study is too long for here, but the interesting fact is that Jesus said things like, "I AM the bread of life," and "I AM the Resurrection and the life." When He said those things, He used God's divine name "I AM" (we see this as the "LORD" in our Bible, versus simply the "Lord." It was Jesus's use of God's divine name "I AM" that got Him into trouble, as the Jewish leaders were outraged at His "blasphemy." Since they had no power in the Roman government, it was an illegal trial and eventual barter of an outrageous criminal that led to the murder of Jesus by the Roman government. The execution style of the time? A wooden cross. This happened on Friday, the Jewish Passover (a holy day of remembering when the blood of the lamb on the door frames of the homes of the Children of Israel in Egypt kept them safe during the 10th and final plague; only then did Pharaoh finally allowed Moses to lead them out of slavery.). Saturday passed. Then on the third day, Sunday morning, Jesus rose from the dead and proclaimed His victory over death and the devil! All who call on the name of the Lord as their Savior are given the free (but not cheap) gift of salvation.
I made this card for a friend who's husband went home to be with Jesus. Photo is from Stock Exchange.
