Irish Potato Candy
is a traditional Philadelphia confection,
that is not Irish and does not contain any potato.
These no-bake, bite-sized candies are super simple
to make and all too easy to eat a lot of.
Why are they called Irish Potatoes?
They look like potatoes.
According to Philadelphia Irish tradition…
they’re the perfect St. Patrick’s Day treat.
Many Families and bakeries have their own
variation of this recipe. Our family recipe was
first made by my mother. Now, I make them
every year for my family.
¼ cup butter softened
4 ounces cream cheese
1 teaspoon vanilla
4 cups confectioners sugar
2 ½ cups coconut flakes
Cinnamon
Beat butter and cream cheese until smooth. Add
vanilla and confectioners sugar, beat until
smooth. Mix in coconut. Roll into balls. Roll balls
in cinnamon. chill to set.
