Journaling: What is a boy? - Alan Beck
Between the innocence of babyhood and maturity there is a delightful creature called a BOY. Boys come in assorted sizes, weights and colors, but all boys have the same creed: to enjoy every second
every minute of every hour of every day and protest loudly ...
The noise is your only weapon when his last minute is finished and the adult package them and they put on the bed. Boys are found everywhere: on top of, underneath, inside of, climbing on, swinging from, running around, jumping ...
Mothers love them, little girls hate them, older brothers and sisters tolerate them, adults ignore them and Heaven protects them ... A boy is Truth with a dirty face, Beauty with a cut finger, wisdom with bubble gum in her hair, the hope of the future with a frog in his pocket ... When you are busy, a boy is a conversation-thrown, and pushy amolante.
When you want him to make good impression, his brain turns to jelly, or it turns into a sadistic and savage creature bent on destroying the world around them. A boy is a hybrid: the appetite of a horse, a willingness to swallow a sword, the energy of an atomic bomb in the pocket, the curiosity of a cat, the lungs of a dictator, the imagination of Jules Verne, the retraction a violet, the enthusiasm of a firefighter. Like ice cream, knives, saws, bits of wood, large animals, Dad, Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, water hoses.
Not much for Sunday schools, books without pictures, music lessons, collars, barbers, girls, clothes, adult and "Bedtime" ...
Nobody gets up so early or so late for dinner.
Nobody has fun with both trees, dogs and mosquitoes.
Nobody else can cram into one pocket a rusty knife, a half eaten apple, five feet of string, a plastic bag, two pellets of gum, three notes of a real, a sling,
and a fragment of "unknown substance". A boy is a magical creature:
you can keep him out of his office, but can not expel him from your heart. You can get him out of the living room, but can not get him out of his mind. But when the night you come home with their hopes and dreams reduced to pieces, he has the magic to weld them into a second,
answer two words only:
"Hi dad ... mom Speaks!
