JOURNALING:
After Michael & I got married we moved into his little apartment that he was renting before we got married. My "job" until a real offer came thru was to find us a house to live in. Michael went off to law school everyday and my cousin Kathy and I scoured the ads and drove around looking
for a home. We just happened to stop by and visit my uncle at work in Golden Hill and I feel in love with all the cute little houses. Fortunately there was one available and in our price range and we moved in within the week. It was a quaint little neighborhood. We had two widows living on one side of us and
they would pull open the drapes every time we drove up our driveway. On the other side of us lived a family who's business was a mariachi band, so we got free entertainment most weekends. On the corner lived the nuns that worked at the nearby catholic hospital. Scattered up and down the street were several young couples
like ourselves and we would get together for weekend BBQ's. The house had 2 bedrooms, a large living room and kitchen. I had a huge backyard where I planted a garden and an apple tree. The best thing about this house was that it was just a block from our church, so every Sunday morning
we would enjoy the walk thru our neighborhood on our way to worship. The worst thing about this house was that it was in the flight path of Lindberg field and on foggy mornings the jets would have to take off over our house. When I was pregnant with Meg, we knew we needed a bigger house. By this time I was working at Scripps in La Jolla and
Michael was working for a law firm in Solana Beach, so we knew we wanted to move to north county. I was totally unfamiliar with this part of town, but I kept seeing signs for this one area so I thought I'd check it out. The minute I walked into this beautiful 3 bedroom condo with an ocean view and I was sold! We thought we were hot stuff cause
we had a washer and dryer AND a dishwasher and sooo much storage space! The day that we moved in I was 7 months pregnant and I sat in a beach chair in the living room telling everyone where to put all the furniture and boxes! Condo living was an adjustment after having our own house, sharing walls with noisy neighbors was something we had to get used to. We commuted for awhile to our old church, but after Meg was born(almost on the stairs!) we knew we had to find a church close to home. The best thing about this condo was the ocean view, I still miss that to this day! The
worst thing about the condo was the small yard and sharing the walls. When Meg was about 2 1/2 we decided we needed to find a home where we could truly settle down and raise our family. We knew we needed more space and a bigger yard. We also wanted a neighborhood with
lots of children and close to the schools. We came upon an ad for a new development in Encinitas, unfortunately lots of other families had the same idea we did. People started camping out for their place in line to buy a home. We couldn't do this as we both worked and I remember being soooo disappointed not being able to buy my dream house. As we were driving away, we noticed another new
development that we had previously overlooked. There was only one house left to buy and when we saw it, we knew we were home. It was 3 bedrooms with a bonus room and it had a HUGE backyard. It was across from a green belt so there were no houses in front and there were no houses behind it either. The best thing about this house is everything! Meg & Jim grew up here and all the memories associated with that
make it HOME. The worst thing about this house...well there is no worst thing because Home is where your heart is and my heart is always home.
