JOURNALING:
Life after our marriage was a continuous adventure. Michael was very busy with law school and clerking for a law firm. So I got busy looking for a job. Once I interviewed with Scripps, I knew this was the place I wanted to work at. Meanwhile I had gotten offers from two other hospitals but I turned them down (much to Michael's dismay) because I put my trust in God to provide me with the job of my dreams. I got the job at Scripps and we settled into our married routine. We lived near Balboa Park so we would often go there in the evening to explore the grounds, the museums or the zoo. My cousin, Kathy & I also took ballet lessons there. On the weekend we would all go to the beach or visit with gram. We joined and became involved in Brooklyn Heights Presbyterian Church. One of my coworkers, Joan whose husband was busy with medical school and I became good friends. We joined a book club and spent a lot of time together. A lot of our friends were getting married, so we had a lot of weekend adventures to attend those. For our first anniversary we took a trip to Lake Tahoe. We met up with a lot of our friends from college and spent time cross country skiing. On our way home, we stopped at my parent’s house and we all had a bite from the top tier of our wedding that mom had kept frozen for us. Michael finished law school and then came the process of studying for the bar exam. It was a very stressful time; he even stopped shaving to give himself more time to study. Once he took the bar exam, it would be months before he got the results, so we took a long needed vacation up the California coast. Along the way we once again stopped to visit friends from collage. We stayed at my aunts’ house on the river in Oregon, where Michael spent the mornings sitting on the dock fishing and just veg. I would gather blackberries with my aunt and we would spend the days canning or baking. It was a special time to just relax and let all the stress go away. Our life was a continuous adventure and we looked forward to what future adventures would bring.
