My journaling was all the "things" I want to remember about living in Japan. I will probably add another page of two of journaling.
"Challenger--I was in Mrs. Phillips class. We were watching it. Mrs. Phillips went to college with the teacher. When it blew up, she fainted. I went to the principal to get help.
Mrs. Phillips-- I LOVED this woman. I hope that I am half he teacher that she was. At fourth grade we had parent/teacher/ student conferences. I knew I was in trouble. I had two D's. Mrs. Phillips held up the report card and said. "This is not Amy. She is trying to get your attention." She threw the report card in the trash. "What is going on at home?" We all cried. Mom and I talked. We really talked. I was always in trouble with John. I was ground three out of four weeks. I would have to sit on my bed with my hands in my lap for hours and weeks. I could only come out to go to the bathroom every two hours for five minutes or for meals. It was not mom. When John was on TDY she would let me out. Sometimes I deserved it. Sometimes not. I hated the isolation. To this day I can not give my kids milk in their cereal b/c John made me eat mine till it was gone. If I did not finish it for breakfast it went in the frig for lunch and dinner. I got nothing else till it was gone. 25 years later and I still can't put milk in my cereal without gagging.
Summerland--I loved that summer camp. I slept under the stars on Mt. Fuji. I ate Yoka Soba (my favorite Japanese food), sticky rice balls wrapped in seaweed. I really loved the "experiences" being an airbrat allowed for.
Culture Class-- I took after school Japanese classes because I had a huge crush on Tony Goings.
