JOURNALING:
My most favorite thing in the world to do is go to the beach, which was ingrained in me at a very young age. To walk along the shore and feel the sand under my toes and the waves crashing over me and to feel and smell the salty breeze on my face brings back so many happy memories. Growing up was also about experiencing the great outdoors. My family would take trips to the cabin at Lake Gregory where we would hike, fish or swim in the lake. Our summer vacations were spent exploring all the National Parks; from the Grand Canyon to Crater Lake we would hike and explore them all. And along the way we would get bumper stickers and decals that my dad would let us decorate the windows of our car to show everyone all the places we had visited. Of course then we had the fun job of removing those decals when we got home.
The backyard was my playground. In it was my playhouse, the swing set, a pool and all the various toys and games to keep us entertained. In addition, we had the run of the neighborhood. We would roller skate or ride our bikes up and down the street or to our friends’ houses. My after school activities consisted of going to ballet class, piano lessons and attending brownies. During the summer I would also take baton and art lessons.
Growing up I went thru what my mom called a ~purple phase~ .Everything I owned HAD to be purple. My room was painted purple with a purple rug and purple bed spreads and sheets. All my clothes had to be purple, including my swimsuit. Luckily I outgrew THAT phase. But I never outgrew my love of dolls or stuffed animals. I remember the Christmas I got my stuffed dog Candy AND a Chatty Cathy doll. Candy would sleep with me each night and would go on vacation with me too. To this day I have stuffed animals on our bed and take one with me whenever we go on a trip.
These are just a few of my favorite memories of a childhood spent exploring the world and enjoying life.
