JOURNALING:
When I was born my parents lived on Elizabeth Street in Pasadena. I really have no recollection of this house, but we did go back several times as I was growing up to visit the neighbors that still lived there.
The house where I spent the majority of my childhood was on Woodland Lane in Glendora. This was a brand new house, so it was completely bare inside and out. My mom did all the indoor decorating while my dad did all the outside landscaping. I had my own room with twin beds and tons of closet space for all my stuffed animals and toys. I still remember lying in my bed and l looking out the window at the blinking Christmas lights and feeling so happy and content. My room was purple because in that phase of my life…EVERYTHING had to be purple~! We had a huge backyard that had a swing set and my own playhouse that my dad built. I would spend many hours out there playing house or restaurant…I even wrote the menu items on the walls. We were just a block away from the elementary school and the neighborhood was full of young families with children, so I made my first childhood friends here.
When I was in 6th grade we moved to Northridge Avenue in Glendora. This was a tough age for me to move, but it was at the foothills of the mountains in a more upscale neighborhood with even better schools. Here my room was yellow, with even MORE closest space, this time to hold all my clothes. It also had a huge backyard that has been home to dogs, ducks, turtles, and has hosted many picnics, badminton and croquet tournaments. The Christmas tree that Michael gave me when we were dating, is now over 20 feet tall and stands as the icon for the neighborhood. So many wonderful memories are associated with this house that it will always be home to me. Michael calls it my Tara because every time I go home, I am renewed and refreshed. There IS no place like home.
