JOURNALING:
I love the story of how I got my name. My dad was the sick the morning my mom went into labor, so my uncle drove her to the hospital. Just a few months prior to my birth, there had been an outbreak of scarlet fever in the hospital nursery and several babies had died. To prevent this from happening again, the only people allowed in the nursery were the actual parents, so my mom had me all to herself for five days before they would let her go home. My parents had not selected a girls name because I was the first girl born on my dad’s side of the family in over four generations. In fact my grandfather would not believe I was a girl until he saw me with his own eyes five days later. Because I was born near Christmas, the nurses wanted to name me Noel. But my mom had other ideas. She wanted to name me JackieAnn after my dad, Jack. My dad didn’t like the idea because his brother was named after his father and everyone called him Buster instead of his real name to make it less confusing. He was afraid I would end up with an even worse nickname! But my mom figured since there was no way my dad could come to the hospital and fill out the forms himself; SHE would get the final say on what I was going to be named. So on December 9th, 1954 I was named JackieAnn Gordinier and everyone liked it so much that no one thought to come up with a nickname =)
