Journaling reads:
When you were six we bought you your first Bible. Up until that time we read you stories about Bible characters or out of your toddler Bible. Shortly after buying your Bible you asked me to read it to you. It was late and I was tired so I grabbed your Bible and randomly opened it to quickly read you a few verses. This was the first time I had read to you from your new real Bible. When I finihsed reading you said, “Mom I can feel Jesus.” Startled and confused I asked what you meant. You told me that you could feel Jesus in the room. You went on to explain that we had read stories about the Bible but never the this Bible and while I was reading you could feel Jesus. Wow, I didn’t know what to say. That was pretty cool!
You have always had a thirst for the Bible. We used to sit and read and read and read stories about the Bible from a Bible Encyclopedia we own. I can still remember you asking if we could read just one more story, they had so many cool facts and pictures! Since then we have tried to read you a chapter or two each night. the other day you suggested that I could read to you longer if I wanted. I am sad to admit I didn’t really listen that well the first time. You were persistant and mentioned it two or three more times in the next week. Since then I have been doing my best to read to you daily, and not just a few verses, but stories so you can get to know God’s word the way He intened you to. I enjoy sitting and reading God’s word to you (sometimes I get frustrated when you have too much energy and all you want to do is wiggle around, stand on your head or do other distracting things!) It is then that I need to remind myself that you are only six. I not only enjoy reading but also explaining what it means. How blessed we are to have God’s word available to us daily with the freedom to read it when & where we want.
