Does it matter that I made card this months ago? I have my scripture cards on a ring on a little easel beside my "prayer chair." This one was made before the scripture challenge started! I recently flipped this one to the front again because I was SO FEARFUL about Hurricane Gustav! My daughter, who has been managing a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance Volunteer Village near New Orleans in Pearlington, Mississippi right on the border of Louisiana had been home in upstate New York on leave when Gustav threatened. She wanted to return immediately to help evacuate the village but her boss urged her to stay put. We worried and prayed about her new friends who had either just returned to their flood damaged homes, or were on the brink of returning for the first time since Katrina.
I kept remembering this scripture from Isaiah that so comforted me during devotions when we first did rebuilding work on the Gulf Coast. God knows the names of each and every person affected by these floods and hurricanes! There is no need to fear. I finally had a good night's sleep when my daughter returned to Mississippi - where God has called her to be, serving His people in a place that needs to see God's love made visible. The Pearlington area, including the volunteer village, suffered flood damage from Gustav, but people were okay and things can be repaired or replaced. Within days they began preparing for Ike, which flooded the area again last Thursday due to the vast storm surge, but my fear is gone. “Fear not, Kim, I have you written on the palm of my hand,” God tells me.
