Public school was never easy for you. With your energetic nature and creative mind, you do not fit in the box they try to force children into. This became evident in 3rd grade, when despite scoring nothing below a 98, your report card was straight F's! I spoke to the teacher and learned she failed you not because you could not do the work, But because she did not appreciate your unconfined spirit. We had to change schools to get you out of her class. Things got really bad when you entered middle school. Though it appeared they were giving you every accommodation, some of the teacher's were sabotaging you. Telling you "A monkey could do better", letting you see notes where they were venting about your "difficult nature", and even lying about you! It did not help that the VP saw you as a trouble maker and refused to understand that many of the things you were accused of were not your doing or out of your control. You suffered greatly due to their lack of compassion and understanding. Frequently being assigned to ISS, working late every night, getting up early, going to school early, working during lunch, staying late, etc. All this to barley stay afloat. My heart ached as you began to question your faith. "WHY DOES GOD HATE ME?, I SHOULD NEVER HAVE BEEN BORN, WHY WOULD GOD MAKE ME IF ALL I AM EVER GOING TO DO IS FAIL?" I cried and prayed for you every day, but none so much as when you spoke the most horrible words a parent can ever hear, "I SHOULD JUST KILL MYSELF". We knew we could not leave you in that negative environment anymore. Not only was your education at stake, but your future, your spirit, your soul, your very life itself! I spent days researching and calling every none public school in the area. But soon became disheartened when I came to the realization that they were all full or we could never afford the tuition. There seemed to be no where else to turn. Then came that small voice telling me to call a school that recently closed. Unsure why, I did so with barely a mustard seed of hope. It was that voice and that call that led us to Harbor Christian Academy. A school that recognizes the extreme value of children who are "different" and knows God has very special plans for them and how they will shape our world. It is obvious now, that this school was designed by god, just for you. Though it started as nothing more than a joke "maybe you should open a school", that joke soon evolved into something much more. "A SAFE HARBOR" for children like you, Gods special children. A place to find peace and rest, and to bring you strength. To show you the path God has laid out for you and help you define your purpose. The effect this school has had on our lives is truly a miracle. It warms my heart to see you now. Winning awards left and right, excelling in your grades, having the teachers argue over who gets to teach you, not who has to teach you. I see the happy boy that used to be becoming the man he is meant to be.
