Like most American families, we really enjoy Christmas. The kids make their annual “wish list”, we do the shopping, wrapping, and hiding. Since we are several hours from family we’ve started to do our own Christmas traditions; like opening one gift on Christmas Eve, and having a nice Christmas dinner even if we don’t have any guests. What is interesting is that although we enjoy the holiday and don’t go “overboard” with gifts, I don’t know if years later we can still pinpoint exactly what gift was received from whom unless there are pictures of it. It isn’t that the gifts aren’t special. I hope that my kids are learning the true meaning of Christmas. That it is about Jesus Christ. His birth as a human baby. His life as a sinless man. His death as the Lamb of God. And His resurrection as our Lord and Savior. Christmas is a special season, and we love the traditional holiday festivities as much as the rest. But remember the Reason for the Season!
For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace. - Isaiah 9:6
