I will let Meg explain this Science Lesson in her own words =)
After teaching about plate tectonics, I brought in a lab called "snack tectonics." Normally the lab is done with frosting (asthenosphere), fruit roll-ups (oceanic plate), and graham crackers (continental plate). However, we are "banned" from giving kids sweets at my school so I modified the lab to be more healthy - guacamole (asthenosphere), slices of ham (oceanic plate), and saltine crackers (continental plate). If I could do this lab again, I'd snuff the district and stick to the sweets. The smell of guacamole will linger in my classroom for the next week. gross.
