JOURNALING:
I’m not quite sure just how one acquires a nickname. But somewhere along the line my children labeled me as a ~wuss~ I mean just ‘cause I’m afraid of the dark, crowded cities, high buildings, tight enclosed spaces, flying in an airplane …ok maybe the title IS well deserved. And all these fears were put to the test when Meg & I took a trip to England for her college graduation present. I knew this would be hard for me and I prayed that God would give me the strength and courage to overcome all these fears so I wouldn’t ruin the trip for Meg. Here is a sampling of how God turned each of my fears into a blessing.
Fear: We left for England on the day we started bombing Afghanistan and so we kept hearing Code Orange in the airport every 15 minutes. Blessing: We plugged in our CD players and drowned out the noise.
Fear: We had major turbulence the first 15 minutes of the flight that had everyone strapped in and hanging on for dear life. Blessing: We got free food and drink the rest of the flight.
Fear: The very first thing Meg wanted to do upon our arrival was ride the London Eye. Blessing: The view was absolutely breathtaking that it took my mind off just how high up we were.
Fear: Riding the crowded tube with half of London. Blessing: We sat among the British people and got their suggestions on the best places to visit.
Fear: Shopping at crowded Portobello Road. Blessing: The shopkeepers were so friendly and they even told us where the best bargains were.
Fear: Avoiding the many war protest marches and demonstrations. Blessing: We got to meet and hang out with the Bobbies.
Each fear that I came across, God truly turned into an amazing blessing and to this day Meg still talks about our trip to England as being THE most wonderful one she has ever been on.

There is no fear in love, perfect love casts out fear.
