JOURNALING:
My dad loved to design and build. He had every kind of tool and machine, so he could build anything and everything. When Jim was little, he built him his own carpenter’s bench so that when we would go and visit Grandmama and Papa, the boys could hang out in the garage working together to build all sorts of projects. Dad had the patience and took the time to show him how to properly and safely use the saw and the hammer. He also showed him how to plan and design his own projects. Soon we had a workbench at home so that Jim could continue with the projects he and Papa did not have time to finish. My dad died when Jim was only 10, but I believe that the time that Papa took to instill his love of building and construction to Jim at a very young age is what inspired him years later to become a Civil Engineer.
Enjoy the little things, for one day you may look back and realize they were the big things. ~Robert Brault
