Since I had just completed a LO on peace in January, I chose to focus not on myself this time, but a special little boy I know. I have had it in mind to scrap this picture for my girlfriend for some time, of her son and his sister. My friend really has no time to scrap anymore since having a special needs child. The photo was their Christmas photo card 2006 - I loved it and knew I would want to scrap it. I recently won a pack of Heidi Grace Frost Blvd. and it was instant eureka - they matched this photo perfectly and I knew right where to find it.
I wanted to design this so they could just hang it if they want (which is why I hid the journaling) or it can go in Nicholas' album.
Before Nicholas was born his parents argued all the time and we thought destined for divorce. Nicholas changed their lives. I heard a message on 12/30 about peacemakers, and immediately thought of Nicholas. The journaling reads:
Those with no voice can be the gentle teachers of our lives. They are the peacemakers - a peace that the world cannot give us. The gift they offer in their utter weakness is not of this world, but like the gift of peace Jesus gave us when he experienced weakness and suffering on the cross.
The only gift Nicholas has to offer is that of being with him. There is joy in listening to his breathing; watching him lift a toy and enjoying its amusement; hearing him squeal while watching football games with his dad; seeing him smile as his sister reads out loud to him. Nicholas’ peace is rooted in his heart, and is not of the mind. His peace is the art of being - he is truly a peacemaker of relationships, and we can learn from his brokenness.
Scripture: “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they will be sons of God.” Matthew 5:7 from Sermon on the Mount
From meeting with my friend monthly and asking how Nicholas is doing, I was able to personalize the journaling to include activities that he is a part of.
