JOURNALING:
This past Sunday at church we worshiped in the worship center instead of in the sanctuary. Our church is building a new sanctuary and it was time for the construction to begin. The change from sitting in a small sanctuary to this huge worship center made me feel rather lost. The noise level was so loud, obviously people were not yet thinking of this as a place of worship. And because it was so big, it seemed rather cold and impersonal. But as I looked around, I saw some familiar sites. The pastors’ chairs and pulpit were there, as was the choir and the organ. And tho they could not transport the beautiful stained glass window, they had projected it on a screen behind the pulpit. And then as part of the worship service, the elders brought from the sanctuary the bible and the lit candles so God’s word and spirit would be with us in this new place of worship. I was starting to feel not so lost. And then as Pastor Jack preached, I knew that the change in my surroundings was not the most important thing to focus on when worshiping God. The most important thing to focus on is God himself. For God would be with us no matter WHERE we worshipped. Who knew that changing worship venues would also bring about a change in my perspective about worship as well?
Bible Verse:
For where two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them.
